Lancaster University was named University of the Year 2018 by The Sunday Times Good University Guide. Recognising the importance of tightening legislation, Lancaster University commissioned ClearLead to implement and maintain an ISO 14001 Environmental Management System for their Facilities Division.

Since 2013 ClearLead’s staff have worked closely with the University’s Carbon, Environmental & Sustainability Manager to maintain certification to the ISO 14001 standard, certification to which was achieved to an extremely ambitious timescale of under nine months.

ClearLead provided strategic advice regarding environmental legal compliance and corporate governance structures.  We also delivered an EMS training programme to senior management and support staff to increase awareness of the system and of how the University can limit its environmental impact.

We have also helped manage a programme of internal audits and developing staff training materials and worked with the Projects Department on risk mitigation associated with capital redevelopment projects including establishing a programme of construction site inspections.

We also assessed compliance status against energy related legislation under the Energy Performance of Buildings legislation, and offered support in achieving BREEAM by developing a Water Pollution Prevention Strategy for their Spine Remodelling Project.

Our support helps assure the university’s Facilities Division that they have identified all relevant environment-related risks and opportunities and have systems in place to manage and mitigate them.
